MNA- Iranian sabre fencer Mojtaba Abedini, who finished fourth in Rio 2016, has climbed to the sixth place in the newest International Fencing Federation rankings.<\/p>\n

Following the fencing event of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, the latest ranking was released by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale d’Escrime (FIE).<\/p>\n

Accordingly, Iran\u2019s top sabre fencer Mojtab Abedini, who overcame world\u2019s great figures in preliminary rounds of Rio sabre event, has moved up to sixth place in fencing sport after receiving 149 points.<\/p>\n

Abedini offered great sportive skills in Rio Olympics when he defeated his French, German, and South Korean rivals in the preliminaries though he lost to his US rival Daryl Homer in the semifinals before a second defeat by South Korean Kim Young-Hwan 15-8.<\/p>\n

The Iranian fencer was very close to final of the Rio competitions, but a mistake by the referee put him in the fourth place.<\/p>\n

Currently, Junghwan Kim of South Korea stands atop FIE world rankings followed by Hungary\u2019s Arson Szilagyi and France\u2019s Vincent Anstett who are placed in the second and third positions, respectively.<\/p>\n

The sabre is one of the three weapons of modern fencing and it differs from the other modern fencing weapons, the \u00e9p\u00e9e and foil, in that it is possible to score with the edge of the blade; for this reason, sabreur movements and attacks are very fast.<\/p>\n
